Magherafelt Titans hosted an exciting evening of women’s social basketball on Friday, bringing together teams from Newry Fliers, Belfast Bulls MaBulls, and the Titans for a fantastic showcase of skill, teamwork, and fun. The evening was an example of the ongoing success from Basketball NI’s She Got Game programme.
The first of its kind initiative, supported by Sport NI and The National Lottery, is designed to foster inclusivity and development within the women’s game. Friday’s blitz demonstrated just how much the programme has flourished, with clubs from the Year 1 cohort thriving and growing—a testament to the increasing popularity and success of women’s social basketball.

Programme Coordinator Niamh Mac Manus expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating: “It’s amazing to see this programme continue to grow and flourish. At Basketball NI, we are delighted to be able to attend and support clubs as they progress through the She Got Game programme and beyond. We are delighted to see clubs like Titans continue to grow in numbers weekly and put on blitz’s like this. The aim of this programme is about providing opportunities for women of all skill levels to enjoy the game of basketball in a positive and inclusive environment and that is exactly how it felt on Friday evening”.
A key element of the She Got Game blitzes is the adherence to Socia-Ball rules, ensuring that the games are enjoyable for all participants. These rules—no scorekeeping, no zone defence, and no full-court pressing—create a welcoming atmosphere where players of all levels can develop their skills and enjoy competitive basketball without unnecessary pressure.
Basketball NI is also thrilled to announce that Lurgan Lakers, Larne YMCA BC, and Queen’s BC have all recently embarked on their She Got Game journeys. As the programme continues to expand, the sense of community and support within women’s basketball in Northern Ireland grows ever stronger.

We look forward to welcoming teams, players, and supporters for another fantastic evening at the She Got Game Summer Blitz, taking place at Newforge on April 4th. Join us for what promises to be a fun-filled, family-friendly event celebrating the power of women’s social basketball.
