Youth Forum

Basketball NI are searching for enthusiastic basketball representatives to join the BNI youth forum.

This is a great opportunity for a young player, coach, table official or referee to help shape the future of youth basketball in Northern Ireland.


We want to provide a platform for young people to share their views and influence the future development of the sport of Basketball within Northern Ireland and support them to develop new life skills whilst providing them with experiences that will increase their confidence.

As part of the forum, you will be in a collective group consisting of young people who a registered within a BNI basketball club and can be aged between 16-21. You’ll help to influence the future direction of youth basketball in Northern Ireland

The youth forum will consists of 4 in person sessions with Sport Changes Life, OMAC Performance, At The Heart of The Game and T.A.H.M.I. We extremely excited to have these 4 groups involved to help develop the next generation of basketballers on and off the court.

What you will gain from being part of the BNI Youth Forum

By becoming a representative on the Youth Forum, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Represent the voice of young people from within BNI
  • CPR and AED training with our affiliated partner
  • Education on the mental side of sport
  • Become a Mental Health Champion for your club
  • To access a unique personal development opportunity whilst establishing a professional network to support you in the future
  • Influence the future direction of youth basketball in NI
  • Use for UCAS and CV

Personal Specification

We are looking for passionate young people and who are able to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be currently registered to a BNI club as a player, coach, table official or referee and aged between 16 and 21
  • Is passionate about the future direction of basketball
  • Has the confidence to contribute during youth forum sessions
  • Is able to challenge thinking in a respectful and professional manner
  • Can think creatively and generate new ideas
  • Can represent the views of young people within your club and BNI
  • Has a positive approach to developing their own skill set to aid contribution to the committee

Youth Forum members will be required to:

  • Gain permission from guardian (if under 18)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to attend 4 in person youth forum meetings once a month from November 2024 – February 2025. This will be on weeknight evenings or Saturday mornings.
  • Volunteer at BNI Finals Days in a supportive event assistant capacity
  • Join the BNI Youth Forum WhatsApp group
  • Provide recommendations to improve the quality of the youth basketball season
