We aim to foster a culture of respect, fairness, and opportunity, on and off the court. We are
dedicated to:
• Championing diversity: We value the diversity of our players, coaches, officials, volunteers,
and fans, and we are committed to reflecting the broad range of communities in Northern
Ireland. We actively encourage participation across all genders, ethnicities, abilities, sexual
orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Creating access: We work to reduce barriers to participation at all levels of the game,
ensuring that everyone has equal access to basketball, whether as a player, coach, official, or
fan. Our programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible, with a particular focus on
underrepresented groups.
• Tackling discrimination: BNI has a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of discrimination,
harassment, or bullying. We take action to prevent and address any behaviour that
undermines the dignity and rights of individuals involved in the sport.
• Providing inclusive pathways: We are committed to providing development pathways that
offer everyone the opportunity to excel in the sport, whether through grassroots
participation or elite competition. We support programs that encourage diversity in
leadership roles within basketball, including coaching, officiating, and administration.
• Supporting communities: BNI recognises the importance of working with community
partners to promote inclusion and drive positive change. We are dedicated to understanding
the needs of different communities across Northern Ireland and creating initiatives that
reflect and celebrate this diversity.
• Driving continuous learning and improvement: As part of our commitment to EDI, we
regularly review our policies and practices to ensure they meet the highest standards. We
provide education and training for all those involved in the sport to build awareness,
understanding, and advocacy for equality, diversity, and inclusion.
