This is a key full-time role supporting the continued growth and development of basketball across Northern Ireland.
You’ll work directly with our clubs, schools, delivery programmes and be at the heart of our community, with key areas of delivery responsibility including:

Basketball N.I. (“BNI”) is the governing body for basketball in Northern Ireland. The objectives of BNI are to advance, encourage, promote, develop, manage and govern basketball in Northern Ireland. BNI operates within the overall framework of Basketball Ireland, to whom BNI is affiliated.
BNI is a registered Charity with our mission to ‘Grow the game in all its forms, support a passionate basketball community and provide a pathway for every person to have a positive life-long relationship with our sport.’
Role Purpose
The Club Engagement & Programme Officer is a key member of BNI’s operational team and a primary connection between BNI and key stakeholders such as; affiliated clubs, members, volunteers, partner organisations, participants, funding bodies and schools.
The role combines:
- regular and transparent club communication, engagement, development and competition while seeking to enhance the effectiveness and governance of our member organisations; and
- delivery of participation programmes, workforce development, budget and funder accountability, data and reporting, and digital communications.
Key Responsibilities:
Club Engagement & Development
- Act as a key point of contact for BNI affiliated clubs, building strong relationships through regular communication, club visits, surveys, forums and consultations.
- Identify club needs and provide support around governance, safeguarding, compliance, participation registrations & growth, accreditation, volunteer development and organisational sustainability.
- Support the development of new basketball opportunities and clubs in areas where provision is limited, while ensuring club feedback helps inform BNI planning and decision-making.
- Act as a key contact for Club Development, helping clubs access Coaching Qualifications, Coach Development, Referee Education and Qualification Courses, Table Official Training and wider volunteer development opportunities.
- Organise and deliver BNI Leagues and Cup finals days for Club Competition across all junior and senior leagues.
Programme Delivery & Participation Growth
- Coordinate, promote, deliver and evaluate BNI participation programmes including but not limited to Jr. NBA, She Got Game and Girls Got Game, alongside future participation initiatives.
- Work with clubs, schools, coaches and community organisations to provide high-quality, safe and inclusive basketball experiences, with particular focus on young people, women and girls and underrepresented communities.
- Coordinate programme coaches and delivery staff, ensuring appropriate qualifications, vetting, briefing and support.
- Develop clear participant-to-club pathways, helping participants progress from introductory programmes into sustained club basketball.
- Support programme festivals, events and activities and identify opportunities to expand successful programmes into new schools, communities and geographic areas.
Programme Coordination, Budgets & Funding
- Manage and monitor agreed programme budgets, expenditure, procurement, delivery targets, reporting, outputs, timelines and KPIs in line with BNI financial procedures and funding conditions.
- Collect and maintain accurate participation, demographic, geographic, workforce and programme data for reporting streams.
- Prepare professional monitoring information, evaluations and reports for the Head of Operations, BNI Board and funding partners as requested.
- Gather quantitative and qualitative evidence of impact, including feedback, outcomes and case studies, and provide information to support funding claims and future applications.
- Support engagement and reporting with public-sector and strategic funding partners as required.
Communications, Digital & Social Media
- Support BNI’s social media presence and create engaging digital content promoting programmes, club opportunities, courses and events.
- Create graphics and promotional materials using Canva or similar software and schedule/publish content through Meta Business Suite.
- Contribute to BNI Facebook and Instagram channels, gather programme stories and imagery, and monitor relevant digital engagement data.
- Ensure communications are accurate, timely, concise and consistent with BNI’s brand, values and organisational standards.
General Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Operations, staff, Board, committees, clubs, funders and strategic partners and represent BNI professionally.
- Maintain appropriate standards of club support including safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, confidentiality, data protection and governance.
- Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the nature and level of the role.
Person Specification
The successful candidate should be self-motivated, enthusiastic, have strong interpersonal skills, an inclusive communication style and be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills.
You must be able to travel independently, willing to work remotely, evenings and/or weekends.
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant related discipline or possess a third-level qualification in a discipline relevant to the post.
- Minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Math’s.
- Experience in sport, community development, participation, education or a related environment, including programme/project/event delivery.
- Experience building effective relationships with clubs, volunteers, schools, communities or other stakeholders.
- Experience managing programme delivery within agreed budgets and monitoring expenditure.
- Experience collecting and interpreting programme data and producing reports, monitoring information or evaluations for management, Boards, funders or stakeholders.
- Understanding of targets, outputs, outcomes, KPIs and impact within funded programme delivery.
- Strong organisation, project management, interpersonal, written communication and report-writing skills.
- Experience using social media professionally and creating/publishing digital content; working knowledge of general IT and Microsoft Office skills, including Teams, Excel, Word, Powerpoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, travel throughout Northern Ireland and work evenings/weekends when required.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- A full driver’s license and access to a form of transport.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience and knowledge of sports governance, safeguarding and compliance within basketball, another National Governing Body, sports development or a volunteer-led club environment.
- Experience working with public-sector/sports funders such as Sport Northern Ireland, The Executive Office (TEO), local councils or similar organisations, including funding applications, monitoring returns and grant-funded KPIs.
- Experience with schools, community participation, girls’ and women’s programmes, and coach/referee/official/volunteer development.
- Experience using WordPress, Canva, Meta Business Suite, Facebook and Instagram, including social media insights/analytics; photography/video skills are advantageous.
- Relevant coaching, officiating, sports development or project management qualifications.
