Basketball NI Cup Competition Finals: A Day of Exciting Basketball Action

Basketball Northern Ireland fans were treated to a thrilling day of competition at the Basketball NI Cup Finals, held at De La Salle College today, 2nd March 2025. The event featured five senior games across various league divisions, providing nonstop action from the first tip-off at 9:30AM until the final buzzer at 7:00PM.

Basketball NI Men’s Division 3 Shield

Winners: Mourne Basketball
Final Score: Ulster University Tigers Basketball Club 4 – 42 – 54 Mourne Basketball
MVP: Oisin Cullen (Mourne Basketball)

The opening game set the tone for an action-packed day. Mourne started strong and looked poised to dominate early on. However, the Ulster University Tigers 4 mounted a comeback, closing the gap by halftime (31-17). Despite their efforts, Mourne maintained control and secured the win.

Basketball NI Men’s Division 2 Bowl

Winners: Hazelwood Hawks
Final Score: Tyrone Towers 47 – 61 Hazelwood Hawks
MVP: Klaudiijus Kasparavicius (Hazelwood Hawks)

The second game of the day was a battle of momentum shifts. Tyrone Towers had a comfortable start, leading at halftime (28-21). However, the Hazelwood Hawks found their rhythm in the second half, turning the game around with an impressive scoring run to claim victory.

Basketball NI Men’s Division 1 Plate

Winners: UU Tigers 3
Final Score: Belfast Star 56 – 67 UU Tigers 3
MVP: Iandle Alvarado (UU Tigers 3)

This game was a nail-biter until the very end, with just six points separating the teams in the final 36 seconds. UU Tigers 3 held on to their lead and clinched the win. Basketball NI also wishes a speedy recovery to the injured UU Tigers 3 players.

Basketball NI Women’s Senior Cup

Winners: Belfast Star
Final Score: Belfast Star 78 – 42 Queens Basketball Belfast
MVP: Lexi Posset (Belfast Star)

A dominant performance from Belfast Star saw them secure the Women’s Senior Cup with a convincing win over Queens Basketball Belfast. Both teams could meet again in the League Finals on March 30th, as they currently top their division.

Basketball NI Men’s Premier Cup

Winners: Belfast Star
Final Score: Belfast Star 87 – 51 Ballymena BC

In the final game of the day, Belfast Star showcased their prowess with a commanding victory over Ballymena BC to lift the Men’s Premier Cup.

Thank you to our Competitions Committee for their support in organising the days events and their work throughout the season to make it all possible. Thank you to our referees and table officials as we all know without our officials team, the games would not be able to go ahead.
