What A Weekend!

This weekend saw a host of success for Basketball Northern Ireland down in Dublin.

Phoenix BC are the AICC U14 Boys Division 2 Winners

The All-Ireland Club Championship took place for the second weekend of competition with the U14 Boys at Gormanston Park. The U14 Boys competition took place on Saturday and Sunday this past weekend and saw 25 teams from all around the country battling it out.

After a quarter-final win first thing against Ballyroan (45-36), Phoenix U14 Boys advanced to the semis where they took the win (37-27) over Castlebar Comets. They then come head to head with Moycullen in a very tight final winning 33-32 to become U14 Div 2 All-Ireland Champions.

Well done to all the boys involved and to Coaches Simon Kennedy and Joby Holman and Team Manager Maria McEntee.

Shout out to Belfast Star who won three games and lost one on Day 1 of the AICCS. They played Sligo All Stars on Day 2 and very narrowly lost 35-30.

Ulster University seal promotion to the InsureMyVan.ie Super League

Ulster University seal promotion to the InsureMyVan.ie Super League with 95-86 overtime win over Limerick Sport Eagles in a thrilling InsureMyVan.ie Division 1 League Playoff Final at the National Basketball Arena on Saturday. Ulster University achieved the double this season having claimed the InsureMyVan.ie Presidents’ National Cup in January.

Phoenix Rockets defeat Portlaoise Panthers 89-69 in MissQuote.ie Division 1 League Cup Final

Phoenix Rockets are the MissQuote.ie Division 1 League Cup champions, defeating Portlaoise Panthers 89-69 at the National Basketball Arena. Phoenix Rockets’ Jessica Fairweather stole the show with 34 points, 12 rebounds and two assists, to earn the MVP.

Belfast Star defeat Éanna 78-74 to claim the InsureMyHouse.ie U20 Men’s National League Plate

Belfast Star claimed the InsureMyHouse.ie U20 Men’s National League Plate, with a hard fought 78-74 win over Éanna at the National Basketball Arena. Darragh Ferguson from Belfast Star hit seven three’s to help him to a tally of 29 points, on the way to claiming the MVP.

Congratulations to the team on a thriller of a game and fighting hard right to the very end.
