Basketball Northern Ireland is excited to recruit a coaching and management group to work with Team NI performance squads.
This is an exciting time in the development of performance basketball in Northern Ireland with opportunities to work at U15, U17, and Senior Men’s and Women’s teams both in 5 v 5 and 3 X 3
There are Head coach, Assistant coach, Development coach and Team manager roles available.
COACH-KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implementing the technical programme as directed by the Team NI performance group
- Maintaining a high-quality training and playing environment
- Leading or assisting in the coaching of practices at both stand alone sessions and in performance camps
- Leading or providing coaching assistance from the bench during games as directed by the Head Coach
- Technical and tactical coaching in line with the Head Coach’s plan
- Leading and/or supporting in player selection
- Working with individual players in skill development
- Providing opposition scouting reports and input as requested
- Discuss individual development with players. Supporting them in taking ownership of their own development on and off the court.
- Identifying areas for improvement and providing suggestions where appropriate
- Engage with other Team NI Head and Assistant coaches where appropriate to develop ways of best practice in-line with the “Team NI technical plan ”
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of a basketball Ireland Intro award-essential
- Preference for level one for Head Coach positions and International experience-desirable
- Appropriate basketball coaching experience for the position applied for. Note-there is scope for the appointment of development coaches who will have the opportunity to develop their coaching under the BNI coach mentorship programme
- Committed to and has a proven track record of personal development and a willingness to embrace feedback-essential
- Qualifications in Safeguarding, Anti-doping, Mental Health –desirable, will be expected to be secured as part of role if not already held.
- Basic disclosure checks will be performed for all successful applicants unless already held with Access NI

SERVICE DETAILS
Time commitment
Appointments to begin at the earliest opportunity and conclude after the end of the 2024 Team NI summer programme
Availability for performance camps, stand alone sessions, coach workshops and compilation of scouting reports.
Remuneration
A Stipend will be provided for Head Coaches and Assist Coaches
Development Coaches and management positions are voluntary with CPD and mentorship opportunities
Location
UUJ, Jordanstown plus other locations around Northern Ireland. Travel to the UK and Europe for friendly and tournament play
Support
Coaches will have the opportunity to develop their skills working with an internationally experienced performance group
Their will be financial support for the attendance at Level one and Level two BI qualifications
All coaches will be part of the BNI coach mentorship programme and have access to relevant resources

- JAN-FEB TRAINING SESSIONS
- FEBRUARY MID TERM –WEEK OF 12th of FEB
- (RETURN WALES TRIP POTENTIAL U15B & G)
- TEAM NI COACHES WILL ADDITIONALLY SCOUT PLAYERS
- TEAM NI WILL GROW WITH U15, U17 BOYS & GIRLS
- TEAM NI WILL GROW WITH SENIOR MEN AND WOMEN
- TEAM NI WILL DELIVER BOTH 3X3 AND 5X5 TEAMS ACROSS AGE
- IT WILL BE UP TO CLUBS AND PLAYERS IF THEY ARE ATTEND
- TEAM NI PERFORMANCE PATHWAY OFFICER WILL CIRCULATE AN UPDATED SELECTION POLICY AND ALL TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
- TEAM NI WILL RELEASE A SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR SUMMER 2024 AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY
