Poyntzpass Pumas Embark on Cultural Adventure in China

Poyntzpass Pumas Basketball Club is currently soaking in the incredible sights, sounds, and culture of China on a two-week cultural visit. This exciting trip, organised by the Confucius Institute at Ulster University in collaboration with Hubei Normal University, is a unique opportunity for the Pumas to broaden their horizons and gain invaluable international experience.

The journey kicked off with a formal welcome ceremony at Hubei Normal University in Huangshi. During the event, Pumas Chairman Paul Convery had the honor of presenting the club to the University Director of Foreign Affairs and the International Exchange. This warm reception set the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable trip.

While in Hubei Province, the Pumas will not only explore the local culture but also test their basketball skills against local high school teams. Three games are scheduled in the city of Huangshi, providing a fantastic chance for the Pumas to showcase their talent and sportsmanship on an international stage.

Beyond their basketball commitments, the team is also taking time to visit some of China’s most iconic landmarks. Their itinerary includes sights such as The Great Wall of China, The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Beijing Olympic Park. These excursions offer the Pumas a rich cultural immersion, enhancing their understanding of China’s history and society.

As the Pumas enjoy this cultural and sporting exchange, they are also looking forward to returning home and gearing up for the next season. The club is always on the lookout for new players to join their ranks, and this experience in China is sure to inspire many more to take up the sport.
