Lidl Community Works generously supports Ulster Elks Jr Girls

Lidl & Elks at practice‘Lidl Community Works’ follows the success of the ‘Lidl Surprises’ initiative in 2014 which saw Lidl deliver random acts of kindness to over 350 community groups in Northern Ireland.

The campaign is testament to Lidl’s ongoing commitment to Northern Ireland.
“Supporting all things local – from local suppliers and local charities to local jobs and local communities is central to Lidl’s commitment to Northern Ireland. But we believe actions speak louder than words and that’s why we have created our ‘Community Works’ campaign,” said Glen Cinnamon, Regional Director at Lidl Northern Ireland.
“We want to give back to the people who have supported us on our journey since we opened our very first store here back in 1999!”

Customers across Northern Ireland were invited to nominate groups in their local area that could benefit from Lidl’s support. A panel of well-known faces, including international rugby player Rory Best, community worker Carol Doey, broadcaster Pamela Ballantine, chef and Lidl ambassador Ian Orr and TV presenter and model Zoe Salmon, had the difficult job of selecting the winning projects from the 2000 entries for Lidl to invest in.

Ulster Elks Junior Girls Basketball club was one of the final 32 projects chosen as worthy of Lidl’s support.

Tracey McCreanor (Ulster Elks BC) said it is just fantastic that Lidl has recognised the importance of sport and physical activity in the lives of our young girls and basketball as one of the fantastic team activities that young girls can get involved in. We have a very small club which makes resources hard to come by. This financial support from Lidl will make a massive difference to our club and we are very grateful for it.
