In a thrilling development for basketball enthusiasts across Northern Ireland, Basketball Northern Ireland proudly presents the inaugural BNI Bowl. The BNI Division 2 competition is in its first year of running and the first ever champions will be crowned this Sunday at De La Salle.
As the National Governing Body for basketball in Northern Ireland, Basketball Northern Ireland has been committed to nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity, and advancing the sport at all levels. With the launch of the Bowl, the organisation is in a new era of excitement and opportunity for players and fans. Designed to showcase new and upcoming teams the Bowl is a great base platform for new blood within the league.
Semi-finalists from across Northern Ireland will converge on La Salle and Queens PEC this weekend for finals weekend, each vying for the chance to etch their names onto the inaugural Bowl.
As stated the Bowl is an excellent opportunity for new teams to engage in high stake knockout basketball. With four clubs in their first year of existence competing in the competition this year, it has been an added experience to their new life in Basketball. We spoke to one of the new clubs Head Coach, Michael McCabe of Mourne BC about being in the competition and their upcoming semi-final against Newry
We’re really excited to be playing in the first ever BNI Bowl, it is a great opportunity for new clubs to engage in more competition. We’re also looking forward to our upcoming semi-final against Newry at the weekend. It’s been a great first season for us and we have laid a great foundation for the future. It will be a tough ask with Newry having a perfect season to date so there will be nothing to lose for our men as we aim to leave it all out there.
Michael McCabe, Head Coach of Mourne BC
The upcoming finals weekend certainly promises to be an exciting one, with semi-finals and finals across all the senior knockout competitions.
