Basketball Ireland’s Open Talent Identification Sessions Now Open

In preparation for the forthcoming international season, provisional dates have been set aside for open talent identification sessions for the U14, U15 and U17 Basketball Ireland Academy programmes.

  1. Please note that there are no open talent identification sessions for the U16 and U18 national team programmes.These teams are part of the International Player Pathway Programme, which runs on a two year cycle. 
  2. U20 talent identification sessions will be announced later in the year, as they will not start before the end of December 2024.

Basketball Ireland Academy – U14 & U15

The Basketball Ireland U14 and U15 Academy open talent identification sessions will take place on the following dates across the country.

Each Region/Province will have two talent identification sessions. Players should attend both sessions where possible to give coaches the best chance to evaluate them, but it will not be seen as a negative if a player is only able to make one of the two sessions.

  • TID 1 – Saturday or Sunday 7th/8th of September.
  • TID 2 – Saturday or Sunday 21st/22nd of September.

Basketball Ireland Academy – U17 Programme

The open talent identification sessions for Basketball Ireland U17 Academy programme will take place on the following days:

U17 Women: Saturday September 21st – UL Sport Arena

  • Players from Connacht and Munster: 10am – 1pm
  • Players from Leinster and Ulster: 2pm-5pm

U17 Men: Sunday, September 22nd – UL Sport Arena

  • Players from Connacht and Munster: 10am – 1pm
  • Players from Leinster and Ulster: 2pm-5pm

These are the only open talent identification sessions, so players wishing to be considered should make themselves available.

If you can not make this session you can complete the section on the registration form giving reasons but there is no guarantee that you will be afforded another opportunity.


The second U17 talent identification session is an invite only session for players who coaches which to invite for further evaluation after the first open talent Identification sessions.
