Basketball Northern Ireland (BNI) has announced an exciting opportunity for a Community Good Relations Co-ordinator to join their team on a part-time basis. This role is central to the organisation’s mission of using sport to foster good relations across communities throughout Northern Ireland.
With funding support from the Central Good Relations Fund (CGRF), through The Executive Office (TEO), BNI has continued to invest in its community outreach and development strategy.
Basketball NI’s Community Good Relations Programme has a strong focus on inclusivity and education. The programme is designed to promote positive engagement among young people from different backgrounds through the unifying power of basketball.
Key goals of the programme include:
- Expanding delivery of basketball-based good relations initiatives in schools across Northern Ireland.
- Increasing opportunities for young people to engage in good relations education and awareness activities.
- Fostering positive attitudinal change and cross-community understanding.

Job Title: Community Good Relations Coordinator (P/T)
Responsible To: Basketball Northern Ireland Chairperson
Salary: £26,000 pro rata (21 hours per week)
1.0 Job Purpose

Basketball Northern Ireland has sustained this post with continued funding support from The Central Good Relations Fund (CGRF) through The Executive Office (TEO), following a review of our community programme and consultation with members and local clubs. Basketball NI are committed to promoting good relations in local communities through our ability to deliver Basketball throughout the whole of Northern Ireland.
Through the Community Good Relations Programme Basketball NI wish to achieve the following outcomes:
• Increased delivery of Basketball good relations programmes throughout schools in NI
• Increased good relations education and awareness opportunities for young people
• Positive attitudinal change among young people towards those from different backgrounds.
• The continued development of effective working partnerships within local communities to provide and sustain the capacity for good relation programmes to be delivered on a long term basis.
Job Purpose
The post holder will be responsible for delivering the objectives set out within Basketball NI’s Community Good Relations Programme, specifically between the period of August 2025 – March 2026, 21 hours per week. The post holder will be expected to work across Northern Ireland, specifically within targeted regions of Belfast, Craigavon/Lurgan, Derry-Londonderry, the Mid Ulster Council area and Coleraine.
The post holder will also ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all issues relating to the work of BNI and the project’s target groups.
Relevant Experience
We expect candidates to have demonstrable experience in sports coaching, coordinating community based programmes and managing budgets. Basketball specific coaching is desirable alongside knowledge of the funding landscape in Northern Ireland.
2.0 Specific Responsibilities
2.1 To coordinate and deliver good relations schools programmes in various regions:
• Provide Basketball coaching within targeted schools
• Coordinate the delivery of a series of good relations workshops through liaison with an external facilitator
• Arrange meetings with relevant contacts in targeted schools and evening social programmes
• Coordinate and manage casual coaching staff
• Organise concluding Basketball festival events in each region
2.2 To coordinate and deliver cross-community blitz days in various regions:
• Promote the events within the targeted areas
• Planning and booking of venues, coaches and workshop facilitators
• Coordinate and manage casual coaches
• Provide coaching as required
2.3 To promote the Community Good Relations Programme to key stakeholders:
• Maintain contact with new and existing beneficiaries
• Publish regular social media and online project updates
2.4 Carry out all administrative and IT duties relevant to the role:
• Collate appropriate attendance registrations
• Ensure appropriate materials are in place for each activity
• Plan all programme activities and associated bookings required
• Record relevant participant information for monitoring purposes
2.5 To lead on all marketing and promotion of the programme.
2.6 To undertake further training as required.
2.7 Any other duties that may reasonably be undertaken in the pursuit of the overall objectives of the programme, as deemed appropriate by Line Management
3.0 General Responsibilities
3.1 To carry out the role with clear understanding of the Basketball NI Strategic Values; Respectful, Leadership, Excellence and Integrity
3.2 Comply and actively promote Basketball Northern Ireland’s policies and procedures as directed.
3.3 Undertake the foregoing duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of Basketball Northern Ireland
3.4 Any other duties as may be allocated from time to time in accordance with the general nature of the post.
