WE ARE HIRING: Full Time Programme Coordinator

The post will require a high degree of flexibility involving evenings and weekends, as dictated by the operational requirements of the sport.  

Summary 

Basketball N.I. (“BNI”) is the governing body for basketball in Northern Ireland.  The objectives of BNI are to advance, encourage, promote, develop, manage and govern the sport of basketball in Northern Ireland.   

BNI’s mission is to “Grow the game in all its forms, support a passionate basketball community and provide a pathway for every person to have a positive life-long relationship with our sport”. 

BNI operates within the overall framework of Basketball Ireland, to whom BNI is affiliated. 

Role purpose 

The main purpose of the role is to deliver and manage grow participation through our Basketball NI Programmes. the program coordinator will be responsible for developing and delivering effective programs, overseeing activities and details, and measuring overall success. Their duties will consist of managing various administrative tasks, tracking the budget, and ensuring that the program meets Basketball NI targets and goals. 

As part of BNI’s Strategic Plan 2023-2028, the programme officer will operate under the direction of the Board and is a key appointment in the operational implementation of improving basketball participation, competition, outreach, growth and development of the sport in all its forms.  

Key responsibilities 

You will be responsible for the delivery of BNI growth and development programs throughout Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on primary schools, female participation, Team NI and overall development/delivery of programmes within the sport. 

You will be expected to ensure any and all coaches utilised are suitably qualified, vetted, briefed and prepared to deliver programs to BNI’s high standards and ethics. 

You will be expected to prepare effective and suitably resourced delivery programs, plans and metrics that can be maintained on an ongoing basis. 

You will be expected to provide regular, transparent and effective oral and written communication between schools, clubs, members, stakeholders and the Board.    

You will be expected to provide and capture content and support for BNI’s Social Media and Communication strategy highlighting the delivery of our work.    

You will be expected to assist, arrange, facilitate, promote and manage the roll-out of all programmes under Basketball NI and support events to further interest and participation in basketball. 

Be a representative of BNI in attendance at meetings and any other duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time. 

The person 

The successful candidate should have demonstrable qualifications and experience in delivery of successful and sustainable programs for growth and development. 

The successful candidate should be self-motivated, passionate and enthusiastic, have strong interpersonal skills, an inclusive communication style and be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills.  

The person must be able to create a fun and safe environment for children to learn and thrive in. 

The person must be able to travel independently, willing to work remotely, evenings and/or weekends.   

Essential criteria 

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant related discipline or possess a third-level qualification in a discipline relevant to the post. 

Minimum of five GCSE’s at grade C or above, including English and Maths. 

Demonstrable experience that evidences delivery of sports development programs. 

Demonstrate effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. 

Excellent administrative, organisational and IT skills. 

Ability to work independently on own initiative and perform as part of a team. 

Clean driving license and Access NI check. 

Desirable criteria 

Qualifications or experience in sports administration or development.  

First aid trained. 

Relevant experience of volunteering within a sporting or community-based organisation.  

Knowledge and experience of the sport of Basketball and its operations in Northern Ireland.
